Board with Walking

Professional & friendly services to delight your dog

MENU

Boarding

Whatever your boarding needs, Board with Walking can help! Whether regular day boarding, one off days, long weekends, holidays or long term home boarding, we can tailor our services to meet your needs. Your dog will be treated as part of our family, being looked after within our home alongside our own springer spaniel, Kenzo.

We will ensure that when you leave your dog with us you have complete peace of mind about their care. It's so important that your dog is happy when away from you, and that you can leave it knowing that it's in good hands. We're a family of dog lovers, and have only ever left our own dogs with people in whom we have total trust, and who we know treat our dog in the manner we appreciate.

Prior to boarding with us we'll arrange a time to meet you and your dog, ensure that our dogs get on with each other, show you where your dog will be staying, and glean as much information about your dog as we can. This enables us to tailor our care to match yours and your dog’s needs and desires, giving you the confidence that your dog will have a fantastic time with us.

As far as we're concerned, dog walking is an integral part of dog care - so you can rest assured that during your dog’s stay with us they'll be well exercised in the local countryside.

For the benefit of all our visiting dogs, we ask for proof of up-to-date vaccinations (any course of vaccination must have been completed at least four weeks before the first date of boarding), and an assurance of recent flea and worming treatments within a month of boarding.

Overnight

For your dog’s own comfort, please bring their favourite bed, food bowl and lead. When we meet we can agree mutually convenient times to drop off and collect your dog. Our preference is that your dog has arrived with us no later than 6pm to give us the majority of their first evening to settle in. Earlier in the day is even better. The only time we are closed for drop off or pick up is a Sunday morning between 9 and 12.

Day Boarding

Rather than leaving your dog at home on their own during the day you may like your dog to have doggy and human company, a good walk and managed access to the garden. We can offer regular day-boarding throughout the year and ad-hoc days during school terms; one-off days during school holidays can be requested no more than one week in advance. Our standard day is from 7am to 6pm but please discuss any requirements outside those times so that we can accommodate your needs. Hours or part hours outside the standard day do incur a small charge.

Boarding availability

If you know the dates you need, please contact us using the email symbol below from the start date of your booking.

For a general enquiry, please contact us via our Contact Us page.

We update the calendar to reflect all recent secured bookings. The maximum number of day and home boarding at any one time is five dogs. If you require a longer stay, and you see that the calendar suggests there’s just one or two days already fully booked, please do still contact us and we can explore options with you.

Training

Graham training

We can reinforce the behaviour you normally expect of your dog, for example working on recall if you have said your dog is fine off-lead, or a routine you normally use before your dog can start eating. Whilst we have experience of training our own dogs and can quickly get the basics with our visiting dogs we are not qualified to call ourselves ‘dog trainers’. However, there are trainers available locally and if you wanted one to work with your dog whilst they are boarding with us then we are more than happy for the trainer to liaise with us. Please do let us know at the time of booking that this is your intention.

We recommend our friend Graham Nixey. He specialises in providing training, behaviour advice and canine management plans for both gundogs and non-working dogs. His methods are based upon working with owners to develop a well-behaved and contented dog that is a pleasure to have at home or out and about. Once this is achieved and firmly grounded the training can be developed to achieve any owner specific objectives, such as training the dog to be a working gundog, or to enter scurries and other such competitions.

Graham, like most trainers, does not use the old harsh methods of training. He uses positive reinforcement which achieves good results by rewarding desired behaviour and using a gentle check to eliminate negative behaviour.
He offers a full range of services for the house pet and the working dog, including Heel (on and off the lead), Sit, Sit Stay, Whistle Sit, Recall, Whistle Stop, Directional Control and other commands for a shoot, and can be contacted at:

The small print

A 50% deposit is payable to secure overnight bookings (post a meet and greet). Returnable up to two months in advance. Remainder to be paid on arrival or prior to the stay.

For stays of five days or more we recommend giving at least three months’ notice as you are more likely to get the dates you require.

Additional hours outside the standard day boarding hours will incur a small charge and same day cancellations will still be invoiced. Please give 24hrs advanced notice to avoid payment.

We will complete a form with your agreement to ensure we have captured all essential details to care for your dog whilst you are away (for both overnight and day boarding). Download the form here

Please note that we are unable to board puppies less than six months old, bitches in season and that we can only board one intact male at a time.

We are licensed by West Oxfordshire District Council to operate home boarding for dogs which guarantees that we have been inspected and confirms that we meet their Animal Boarding Conditions - further details on the West Oxfordshire District Council website.

Testimonials

Professional, Flexible, Caring
Wendy Gundry has been walking Georgie our GSP since she was a puppy. Georgie is now nearly 4 and a half! She takes Georgie on some wonderful walks in Long Hanborough and mainly off lead in the countryside. Georgie is always happy to go and there have been many times where Wendy has had Georgie spending time at her house whether that be for a few hours or overnight. We have been incredibly happy with Board with Walking`s service and find working with Wendy a real pleasure. She clearly loves the dogs in her care and has a real passion for what she does which is lovely to see. I work part time and knowing that Wendy is there to help with Georgie is a real weight off my mind. ”
Sarah, with Georgie the German short-haired pointer
Reliable, Flexible, Fantastic
Wendy has been a second parent to our dog since he arrived with us eight months ago. She started doing `puppy visits` where she helped to socialise and care for him right from the start. He soon progressed to joining her wonderful hour-long walks and he has never looked back! It`s so reassuring knowing he is getting well exercised, having fun and being so well looked after while we can`t. On top of this, one of Wendy`s greatest features is her flexibility; she`s never phased by a panicked message from me asking for an extra walk at short notice, and for that we are very grateful. But the very best thing is that Humphrey absolutely loves her! She gives him the happiest times and we cannot rate her services highly enough.”

“Dedicated, Passionate, Exciting!
Wendy has been walking Hailey weekly for 5 years. She provides a reliable and dedicated service and she is obviously passionate about her work as she always takes great care of Hailey and is committed to providing an excellent service. Hailey is always very excited to see Wendy and she loves going out in the van. She returns a happy and content dog I would thoroughly recommend Board with Walking`s services.”
Val, with Hailey the Labrador

Whilst you are gone - bicycle servicing and upcycled planters

If you're leaving your dog with us whilst you're on holiday, maybe you'd like to drop a bike off at the same time for servicing, or pick up a planter on your return? You can order a rustic, upcycled planter to be built to your preferred size whilst you're away.
